Improving efficacy of small molecules to treat stroke in an aging population

Case study

Research and Collaboration

The Challenge

Joint work, conducted in association with Professor Arshad Majid, between AF ChemPharm and Sheffield Institute for Translational Neuroscience (SITraN).

The Approach

A multi-disciplinary approach was initiated by AF ChemPharm to utilise the Computer-Aided Drug Discovery (CADD) expertise of Professor Beining Chen of the Sheffield University chemistry department, the expertise of Professor Arshad Majid in the area of Translational Neurology and the chemistry expertise and experience of AF ChemPharm to explore the use of small molecules to combat dementia.

The Results

AF ChemPharm invested in funding a PhD student, an employee of AF ChemPharm, to continue the working partnership in partnership with SiTRAN, Sheffield Institute for Translational Neuroscience. Currently approaching the completion of their studies, this sponsorship will bring additional expertise in computational chemistry and biology back into the company and maintain links with applied research.
